Meanwhile, Putin said that the way the transit of Russian gas to Europe in the light of the conflict with Ukraine should be diversified. In particular, he urged the EU to assist the Czech Republic plans to build gas pipeline South Stream under the Black Sea. He also noted the need to create additional capacity for production and transportation of liquefied gas.
The Protocol on the establishment of monitoring mechanisms for the transit of gas through Ukraine was signed a few hours earlier in Moscow by representatives of Russia and the EU.
