Belarus, Russia rejected a request for a loan of 100 billion rubles in exchange for a move to settlements in rubles in mutual trade. "They were letters of the figures - 100 billion rubles, we do not even see," - said Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation Dmitry Pankin. His words lead agency Interfax.
Earlier, Russia agreed to provide Belarus a loan of two billion dollars. The first tranche in the amount of one billion was transferred in November 2008.
Pankin said that the second part of the loan will be transferred after the signing of a joint action plan the two countries to overcome the effects of the global financial crisis. According to Deputy Minister of Finance, the plan is still under discussion.
In December, the newspaper Kommersant reported that the decision to grant Belarus a loan of 100 billion rubles will depend on whether the official Minsk independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Another condition - the transfer to Gazprom a controlling stake in OAO Beltransgaz. According to the newspaper, if these conditions are met, Belarus could not only get a loan, but also to maintain the preferential price for Russian gas.
According to the latest information, the Belarusian parliament intends to consider the issue of recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia at a meeting to be held April 2.
