Iran January 20, blocked the pipeline to Turkey for technical reasons. This was stated by representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Turkey, reported AFP.
They said that the gas flow has been disrupted after the Turkish state oil and gas company BOTAS was informed about the forthcoming limiting supply. The exact period of the resumption of imports of Iranian gas has not yet been named, but the Turkish side expressed its confidence that "the repair work does not take much time."
Daily Turkey receives from Iran from 15 to 18 million cubic meters of gas on the route Tabriz-Ankara, or about 20 per cent of the Turkish fuel consumption. This route is in addition to import gas from Russia on gas pipeline "Blue Stream", laid under the Black Sea, as well as gas pipelines passing through Ukraine and the Balkans.
While the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which led to cut the transit of Russian gas to Europe, left without fuel, most Eastern European countries, Turkey has been able to compensate for losses due to supply from Iran. Supplies to Europe resumed on 20 January and has already come to Slovakia and Hungary.
In 2008, the Iranian-Turkish gas pipeline already overlap. This happened in May as a result of the diversion of fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party.
