Uzbekistan invited the Russian Gazprom to buy 16 billion cubic meters of gas a year, although the country has reserves to increase exports to Russia. Nevertheless, according to President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Gazprom had been unable to "absorb this figure." The words refer Karimov said.
Uzbek President recalled that the Russian Lukoil issued a permit for additional gas production in the country, so the exports may be about 15 billion cubic meters of gas a year. Earlier in Lukoil reported that they are willing to spend five billion dollars for gas production in Uzbekistan in the next seven years.
Recall that in early 2008, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan pledged to Gazprom, which will sell him fuel only formulnym rather than agreed prices in the long-term contracts. The Russian monopoly, it has agreed, as most of the fuel from Central Asia, it resells abroad.
According to Islam Karimov, Uzbekistan is ready for laying of new pipelines on its territory. During the summer of 2008, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin of Russia reported that Russia would help Uzbekistan to build the pipeline needed to export Turkmen and Uzbek gas.
Asian economies are heavily dependent on exports. The main buyer of fuel in recent years is Gazprom, which forwards its gas pipelines to Europe.
