Nigerian rebels seized oiler near the town of Bonny in the south, said AFP. Eight of the crew members were taken hostage.
According to the Rivers State Police Ebbi Rita (Rita Abbey), all the abducted citizens of Nigeria. Seized the vessel belonged to the Anglo-Dutch oil company Shell.
This is the second episode with the seizure of the tanker in Nigeria over the past few days. January 14, the company Exxon Mobil reported that its vessel was seized by Nigerian militants from the Movement for the Liberation of the Niger Delta (MEND).
Attacks by MEND militants on tankers, as well as sabotage on oil pipelines have meant that in 2006, Nigeria has been forced to cut oil exports, its main natural wealth by 20 percent.
