The growth of consumer prices in Russia, from 1 to 12 Jan., 2009 amounted to 0.8 percent. This RIA Novosti said a source in the government, referring to the Rosstat data. The site Rosstat official data on inflation have not yet been published.
In comparison, for the entire January 2008 inflation stood at 2.3 percent. The increase in prices in early 2009 due to the increase of tariffs for the services of the Russian monopoly, said the agency. In particular, the electricity tariffs for the population since the beginning of the year grew by 25 percent and for the industry - by 19 percent.
However, in the fight against the crisis, the Russian government in late 2008 decided to curb the increasing rate of domestic monopolies. Thus, the tariffs for gas for the population as of 1 January rose not by 25, while only five per cent.
Last year, inflation in the country, according to Rosstat, reached 13.3 percent and exceeded the Government's official forecast of 11.8 percent. A year earlier, consumer prices rose by 11.9 percent in 2006 - by nine per cent.
According to the Ministry of Economic Development, in 2009, inflation will reach 10-12 percent.
