Industrial production in Ukraine on the basis of 2008 decreased by 3.1 percent. This is stated in a press release issued at the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine. In 2007, as compared with 2006 promproizvodstvo in the country grew by 10.2 percent.
According to the Ukrainian State Statistics Committee, in December last year compared with December 2007, the decline amounted to 26,6 percent promproizvodstva. In November compared to October this figure fell to 28.6 percent.
At the end of 2008, the biggest decline at 15 percent, was recorded in the production of coke and refined products. In the steel industry decline was 10.6 percent.
Ukraine's GDP growth last year reached 2.1 percent. Earlier, the Ministry of the country's economy has reduced its forecast for economic growth to 6.8 per cent to 3,5-4.
Ukraine's economy is one of the most affected by the global financial crisis. In particular, the metallurgical industry, a major in the country, first felt by the impact of the crisis. Because of the decline in world prices for raw materials Ukrainian metallurgists have not been able to compete with foreign producers.
