Level of consumer confidence of Russia's population has declined sharply in the first quarter of 2009, Rosstat said in an official press release.
The index of consumer confidence, which reflects consumer expectations of Russians who fell compared to the fourth quarter of 2008 by 15 percentage points, as compared to the same period of 2008 - by 35 percentage points.
This level corresponds to the index indicators for the fourth quarter of 1999. The sharp decline in the index linked to the deterioration of the general population estimates of the economic conditions in the country, and personal financial situation of the Russians.
According to Rosstat, the worsening economic situation in the country, said 83 percent of Russians. In doing so, the possible positive economic developments in Russia indicated only 13 percent of respondents, but adverse changes in the economy expect a 48 per cent of respondents.
Recall that inflation in Russia, on the basis of March amounted to 1,2-1,3 per cent. During the first two months of 2009 prices rose by 4.1 percent. Thus, for the quarter was passed in the five percent mark.
In doing so, prices in Russia continue to grow, with significant falls in GDP - a 7 per cent in the first quarter. According to official figures, in 2009, inflation stood at 13-14 per cent.
