Rosstat reported on the economic downturn in Russia in February.

Year of goods and services on the basic types of economic activity fell in February 2009 to 11.6 per cent compared to the same month in 2008, according to a press release Rosstat. At the same time, as compared to January, it rose to 2.2 percent.
The freight transport decreased compared to February 2008 at 19.1 percent, and from January 2009 - at 6.4 percent. Foreign trade turnover fell as the annual, and monthly terms (at 40.2 and 42.8 percent respectively). At the same time imports in February 2009 compared with January decreased by more than two times.
The index of industrial production also showed a decrease in year on year and increase over the previous month. By February 2008 the volume of promproizvodstva declined by 13.2 percent, and by January of 2009 grew by 6.4 per cent. These figures are not adjusted, taking into account seasonality and can be attributed to long holidays in January.
Inflation in February 2008 to February 2009 amounted to 13,9 per cent increase, thus, compared with growth in prices for the entire year 2008 (they were, let's, 13.3 per cent). In doing so, producer prices for the same period fell by 5.8 per cent.
Real wages, calculated taking into account inflation, in February 2009, virtually unchanged compared to the same month a year earlier, rising to 0.1 per cent.
Previously, the Ministry of Economic Development reported that, according to preliminary data, Russia's GDP fell in February by more than 7 per cent to the same month of 2008. After two months, Russia's GDP fell by 8 per cent.
