Ukraine will reduce gas consumption by a quarter.

In 2009, Ukraine uses a total of 55.9 billion cubic meters of gas. With such a forecast was made by the state company Naftogaz of Ukraine, said in its official press release. In 2008 the figure stood at 75 billion cubic meters, said RIA Novosti. Thus, gas consumption in Ukraine reduced to 19.1 billion cubic meters, or 25.5 percent.
Of the total amount of Naftogaz plans to buy abroad 33 billion cubic meters. This is much less than the previous estimate the company - in January she reported the intention to purchase from Russia 40 billion cubic meters of gas. The new data may indicate that the global financial crisis has led to a significant drop in demand for fuel in Ukraine.
20.6 billion cubic meters of gas Ukraine is planning to get herself and another two billion cubic meters out of the underground gas storage facilities.
According to Naftogaz, the supply of fuel for the population not to exceed 17.8 billion cubic meters, and for industrial enterprises - 19,3 billion cubic meters. The rest will be energy and budget organizations.
Recall that the treaties between Russia and Ukraine on gas supplies provide for specific penalties in the event of shortfall contracted volumes. However, in March, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said that Russia would not be fined for Ukraine was discussed, as well as the country is located in predbankrotnom state.
