Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko over the next two weeks will come to Moscow to personally ask the Russian authorities to provide Ukraine a loan of 5 billion dollars. This writes the newspaper "Vedomosti".
Sources told the publication that Tymoshenko had already discussed the matter with the Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin and is now awaiting his decision.
Recall that a loan of five billion dollars, which Ukraine has asked Russia, if it is to provide the Russian side, will go to pay for gas that Naftogaz of Ukraine buys from Gazprom.
It was anticipated that in 2009 "Naftogaz" will get 40 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, spending on this 9.2 billion dollars (based on average gas prices). But in Ukraine because of the crisis, falling demand for gas, so "Naftogaz" has asked Gazprom to change the contract, reducing the annual volume of purchases to 33 billion cubic meters. The Russian company allegedly agreed to meet "Naftogaz", but on paper the new treaty has not yet been issued.
Ukraine's economy stronger than any other Eastern European countries affected by the global financial and economic crisis. It should be noted that Ukraine is also trying to persuade the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to provide it with the second tranche adjustment loan to 16.5 billion dollars.
