The Cabinet of Ministers headed by Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko canceled the additional duty of 13 per cent on the importation of some foreign goods, including fat, alcohol, sausages and canned goods. This informs UNIAN. Import duties on cars and refrigerators still in force.
Additional tax on the importation of a range of food and non food products was introduced in early March, a decree of President Viktor Yushchenko. It was emphasized that the Government has the right to cancel duties on some goods. According to the chairman of the Council of Entrepreneurs under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Oksana Prodan, officials decided to exercise my right.
Against the imposition of fees by several trading partners of Ukraine, including Japan, which threatened to impose a similar surcharge in their country. Yulia Tymoshenko had previously stated that the fees are contrary to the norms of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Viktor Yushchenko has imposed duties to ensure that local products on the Ukrainian market became more competitive. Furthermore, additional duties could lead to increased revenues in a world crisis.
