OPEC has asked Russia for a demonstrative reducing oil production.

Organization of the countries - exporters of petroleum (OPEC) has asked Russia to further decrease in oil production, more than its natural decline due to global financial and economic crisis. This writes the newspaper Vedomosti, citing sources in the Ministry of Energy of Russia. In addition, according to OPEC, to Russia could put pressure on oil prices, declining production of hydrocarbons must be coordinated with the actions of OPEC and defiantly happen.
What Russia should reduce the amount of prey, cartel did not specify. In doing so, according to a source in the Ministry of Energy, which refers to the newspaper, the country compared with Saudi Arabia, implying, perhaps, that Russia could conduct a comparable reduction. According to the decision of OPEC, Saudi Arabia less than a year in reduced oil production by 16 per cent to 8 million barrels a day. Crude oil production in Russia in 2008 amounted to 9.78 million barrels a day, but with the results of January-February 2009 - 9.75 million barrels. Reduced production of the entire 0.3 per cent.
However, according to the Vedomosti, Russia is unlikely to agree to reduce oil output because of already done everything possible to retain the oil price above 40 dollars per barrel. At the same time in the OPEC is also no consensus on the reduction of quotas on production. According to the Secretary General of the cartel Abdullah al-Badri, the current oil prices are unacceptable, but given the global crisis, this is normal.
In mid-February 2009, Vice-Premier Igor Sechin said Russia, which this year will be maintained a positive level of oil production. This will be achieved through significant investment in previous periods. In addition, Sechin also said Russia could either reserve or purchase from the oil companies, 16 million tons of surplus that can be placed in a reserve of oil.
In 2008, Russia recorded the decline in oil production. Compared to 2007 the reduction of this indicator was 0.7 percent. In total last year, Russia produced 488.1 million tons of oil.
Meanwhile, markets expect resolute action from both OPEC and from Russia. On the expectations of the reduction of oil prices for fuel at the New York Mercantile Exchange March 12, 2009 grew by 3 dollars to more than 46 dollars a barrel. Two days earlier, the cost of oil reached 48 dollars per barrel.
