The project Nabucco, which involves construction of a pipeline from the Caspian region to Europe, bypassing Russia, has been excluded from the list of priorities of the EU. This is the agency EurActiv. On the priorities of the EU is ready to spend five billion euros from the unspent budget. Development of Nabucco was incorporated into the all plan to stimulate the economy, to strengthen the energy security of Europe.
Nabucco Exclusion from the list of priorities at the pan-European plan, does not mean that the EU will not invest in the project. Nabucco has been made in another section of the plan, called "Southern Gas Corridor" (Southern gas corridor) and provides a number of energy projects in southern Europe. In particular, the Southern Gas Corridor "planned investment in the construction of a pipeline from the ITGI ioniyskogo the coast of Greece to Italy.
The throughput capacity of Nabucco gas pipeline is planned to reach 30 billion cubic meters of gas a year. It will provide about five per cent of the total fuel consumption in Europe from the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. The main difficulty of the project is that so far not been able to find a state that would allow downloading pipeline. Exporters from Central Asia to work with Russia and China, trade relations with Iran are limited by international sanctions, and capacity of Azerbaijan to the full load is not enough.
March 16, 2009 the Russian company Gazprom announced that it had received an invitation to participate in the Nabucco, but renounced it. This told Deputy Chairman of the Gas Company, Alexander Medvedev, informs RIA Novosti. According to him, to Gazprom's target is a gas pipeline project "South Stream" (South Stream), which is considered a direct competitor to Nabucco.
"South Stream" will be held under the Black Sea and the territory of the Balkan countries in Central and Southern Europe. It will be gradually introduced into service in 2015-2024 years. Pipeline capacity will be 47 billion cubic meters a year, taking into account the intentions of Gazprom to increase the design capacity of the Southern stream "50 per cent.
