Croatia and Hungary will connect gas pipelines.

Croatian National Gas Company Plinacro and Hungarian FGSz signed an agreement to connect its pipeline by the end of 2010, reports AFP. The deal will make 395 million euros.
The pipeline length of 298 kilometers connecting the Croatian and Hungarian village Slobodnitsa Varoshfold. Its throughput capacity will be 6.5 billion cubic meters a year.
Representatives Plinacro stated that the agreement was "historic for the future of the Croatian energy sector." It will supply gas including Hungary, after the terminal to receive liquefied gas will be built on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. However, in the first gas will go in the opposite direction - from Hungary to Croatia.
Croatia is now producing about 60 per cent for domestic consumption. The remaining 40 percent is imported from Russia through the territory of neighboring countries.
Croatia has suffered in the course of Russian-Ukrainian gas conflict in January 2009, when gas supplies through Ukraine to Europe were halted. The suspension of gas supplies have forced many European consumers to seek alternative sources of supply.
