U.S. President Barack Obama urged Americans not to reduce their costs and not to hide the money in the mattress. This he said in an interview with The New York Times, published on Saturday.
Obama also noted that the exit from the economic crisis will be possible thanks to a return to fundamental values, such as hard work, long-term investments, retirement savings, long-term accumulation in the payment of education for children.
U.S. President promised to try in 2009 to create the conditions for economic recovery. But he said that is not going to attract additional funds to stimulate the financial system, except for the 250 billion dollars that has already been budgeted. At the same time, Obama lamented the poor state of the European economy, which could in turn adversely affect the situation in the USA.
Speaking about international affairs, Obama announced his desire to begin negotiations with the moderate representatives of the Taliban in Afghanistan. In doing so, he cited the success of similar policies in Iraq, where the U.S. government managed to win over many moderate Islamists, especially the Sunnis. The journalists' questions about the benefit the U.S. war in Afghanistan, Obama said: "None."
