Russia's first plant to produce liquefied natural gas (LNG) has opened in the Sakhalin-2 ", Interfax reports. The ceremony of launching the plant in the village of Prigorodnoye in the south of the island took place the morning of 18 February. The ceremony was attended by the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Japan Taro Aso, as well as Prince Andrew Duke of York.
According to Medvedev, after project power plant will provide up to 5 per cent of the world supply of LNG. Power Plant in Prigorodny of 9,6 million tons per year, representing 8 percent of total gas consumption in Japan. Most of this gas has already been purchased for 25 years by companies from Japan, USA and South Korea.
The first shipment of LNG from the plant will be in March 2009 in Japan. Overall, according to managing director of Sakhalin Energy project Ian Craig, in 2009, the export will be sent to more than 50 shipments of oil and about the same - CNG. One batch of oil will be an average of 700 thousand barrels, with a mean batch of liquefied gas - about 145 thousand cubic meters. Peak production company intends to achieve in 2010, when the country will be sent 100 shipments of oil and 145 shipments of LNG.
Sakhalin-2 "in terms of the agreement is implemented under the PSA production. The controlling shares in the project belongs to Gazprom, 27.5 per cent - the Anglo-golandskoy company Royal Dutch Shell, 12,5 and 10 per cent - Japan's Mitsui and Mitsubishi, respectively.
