Latvian Prime admitted five forecast slowdown in GDP "optimistic".

Prime Minister of Latvia Ivars Godmanis said that the government's forecast of five decrease in GDP in 2009 - is too optimistic, the DELFI.
In this regard, said the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Bank of Latvia, the Ministry of Finance and International Monetary Fund are employed to develop a new macroeconomic forecast for the current year.
Godmanis also noted that while the Government was not considering raising taxes in 2009, but "the matter is still under discussion." In doing so, Prime emphasized that stimulation of the economy at the moment is a priority of the work of his cabinet.
According to Godmanis, it is expected that on Friday 20 February, the public will be presented to the new - revised - a forecast of economic development of republic for 2009.
As the Mixnews, while the Prime Minister pointed out that in neighboring Estonia, the economic downturn in 2009 is expected to be 9.4 per cent.
Recall that according to experts, the Baltic countries stronger other EU states were affected by world economic crisis. In this regard, the Government of the Baltic republics of introducing austerity regime of public funds, as well as raise taxes.
According to statistics, only in the IV quarter of 2008 the decline in GDP in Latvia has exceeded 10 percent.
