RosUkrEnergo announced the payment of Naftohaz only a quarter of its debts.

It is reported Interfax with reference to the press secretary of RosUkrEnergo Andrew Knutova. According to him, the amount of debt Naftohaz to RosUkrEnergo, an intermediary in supplying gas to Ukraine, after the 18 December to 800 million dollars has decreased by only a quarter.
He added that financial obligations Naftohaz, taking into account the supply in October-December, as well as punitive damages at more than two billion dollars.
Earlier on Dec. 18 an official representative of Gazprom Sergei Kupriyanov said that Ukraine, moving to Gazprom 800 million dollars for gas supplies, said the Russian monopoly, that it would not pay more for fuel. According to Kupriyanov, in connection with the Gazprom refuses to sign the contract for the supply of gas next year. In turn, representatives of the "Naftogaza Ukraine stated that they do not know from where did the information about the company's intention not to return the debt.
Recall that the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine was detailed in a memorandum on cooperation in gas sphere, signed by heads of governments of Russia and Ukraine in October 2008. It was expected that from 1 January 2008, Gazprom and Naftogaz "sent to the direct relationship, bypassing brokers. However, this was possible only with the full repayment of Naftohaz all debt for the delivered gas.
After the debt repayment "Naftogaz and Gazprom will be able to resume negotiations on conditions of gas supplies to Ukraine in 2009. Now the price of fuel at 179.5 dollars per thousand cubic meters, but next year the price has not yet been determined. The cost will depend of how prices Gazprom will buy gas in Central Asia, whence come the supply to Ukraine. At the same time, Gazprom has not yet agreed on the conditions of the purchase of gas in Central Asia.
